Blog EntryToolbar Custom Buttons and Bookmarks Jun 28, '08 2:50 AM
for everyone
I've just spent five minutes covering my Google toolbar with these custom buttons. Here are the Google instructions:

Create a simple button using the Toolbar

  1. Install the Google Toolbar
  2. Go to http://slashdot.org/
  3. Right click on the search box at the bottom of the page and select "Generate Custom Search..." from the menu that appears

    Custom Search

  4. Click on "Add" and then "OK" in the Custom Button installation dialogs
  5. Congratulations! You've created a custom button for Slashdot on your Toolbar.

Not every website has an option for a pretty icon to appear. In that case I get a magnifying glass icon appearing on the Google toolbar, and the only way to find out where it leads is to hover over it. It gets tedious when you have a whole line of identical unlabelled icons. Some websites have no search box.

The easiest thing with both of those is to bookmark the site and add the bookmark title to your Google toolbar. Click on Bookmarks, then Bookmark This Page, then save it in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder. Hey presto! It appears on your Google toolbar.

I am still trying to install the last update I did to my toolbar and it just isn't happening. I'm wondering if I caught Multiply on one of it's bad days. I loved the new Media Locker too. Thanks for urging me to go there.

the bookmarks I'm takling about are ones you add to Google Toolbar for Firefox, which is pretty easy to download and install.

This is the way to the IE& one:

I don't really like IE7 so I only use it at work because it's there already and I don't want to download stuff onto PCs there.

Ugh, can't get my head round that one just now but it sounds like a pretty handy tool there.

I'll have to pin this one and come back to it. The Mult updates have gone pear shaped again. This entry appeared in my inbox as new and then promptly vanished again before I had time to read it. Had to go trawling through the archived posts to find it. It's happened to a few new posts today.

Yes, people are posting at User Support about it, though I haven't had that particular problem yet.

I just use the "Links" folder in my favorites to say my preferred links (e.g., bank, office, ebay, email, etc.) on my toolbar.
